Features
Telecommunications magazine (international edition): As editor of this title (2000-2008), I pushed the editorial direction away from engineering-led articles to suit a wider, more business-minded audience. I covered a vast range of subjects, but next-generation networks were a regular focus as incumbents contemplated their first moves towards a post-PSTN era. With a sound editorial reputation and wide circulation, Telecommunications was able to interview many of the industry’s leading executives.
WiMax Vision magazine: Part of the Informa Telecoms & Media stable of titles, I was editor of WiMax Vision for over a year until spring 2009. When WiMAX supporters were championing technical superiority and time-to-market advantage over LTE, WiMax Vision took an objective view. Through a combination of case studies, features and analysis, the business case for both fixed and mobile WiMax was put under the microscope.
Mobile Matters: Commissioned by lawyer firm Freshfields, The Economist Group conducted a global survey of mobile industry executives to gauge opinion on threats and opportunities for operators. Combining an analysis of those findings with operator executive interviews, I have written articles on LTE business models, mobile data pricing, network sharing, spectrum, mobile money, and the growing role of mobile in social networking.
Total Telecom Plus: An occasional contributor to the monthly online magazine from Total Telecom. Topics covered include: SaaS opportunities for operators; telco service diversification; LTE and network sharing; and the rise of Chinese suppliers in the managed services space.
