About me

I have been a telecoms writer for over fifteen years. That includes eight years as editor of Telecommunications magazine (international edition) and three years as editor of Asian Communications. At Informa Telecoms & Media I specialised in mobile broadband and was the editor of WiMax Vision magazine. I also contributed regularly to Mobile Communications International, Informa’s flagship telecoms title, and telecoms.com. I set up wielandmedia in 2009.

As part of my freelance work I am a correspondent for The Economist Intelligence Unit (part of The Economist Group), regularly contributing news analysis to its Industry Briefing service (technology section).

Through various other print and online work I have written numerous features and opinion pieces on many topics, interviewing a wide range of senior executives along the way. I have a large contacts book, giving me a useful head start in the freelance projects I undertake.

I have also completed a number of special telecom reports on a freelance basis. They have usually involved a mix of quantitative and qualitative analysis, along with extensive research.

At ITU World Telecom 2009, I was the editor of the Show Daily. I have also worked as a reporter on the Show Daily for Mobile World Congress (MWC) since 2011. I’m on the editorial team again for MWC 2015.
